The award winning Golden Hotel is proud to announce that they were the recipient of the 2011 City of Golden Sustainability Award in the Business Category.

The Golden Hotel was nominated and ultimately selected for their recent installation of solar panels, which saves 43,647 kWh’s of electricity production (every year for the next 30+ years), completing an energy audit, installing motion sensor lighting as well as a guest room occupancy monitoring system, implementing a property wide recycling program and retrofitting the hotel to accommodate energy efficient light bulbs.

Burt Lewis, Owner and Tom Sprankle, General Manager accepted the award on behalf of the hotel on Thursday, April 28, 2011 during The City of Golden’s City Council Meeting.  The award was presented by the City of Golden and the Community Sustainability Advisory Board represented by Karen Smith, Chair for the Board.  The hotel received a display award in addition to a banner announcing this achievement.  Lewis stated that he felt honored to have received this award and is proud to be a part of such an amazing community that holds sustainability as one of their top efforts.

The Community Sustainability Advisory Board was formed in 2007 to assist the City of Golden in achieving their sustainability goals.  This is their third year distributing the awards.
